We are developing a new website. It will be live from beginning of November and will be www.thinkkidneys.nhs.uk What would you like to see on there? We'd be really interested to know what would be really useful for you

Very excited about the building of this. For me, its about the clear information and signposting that makes it relevant wherever you are in the health care system - professional and public - a tall order I know, but I am confident it can be done.

The first point of access, signposting to a wide range of resources and material on AKI for health professionals (primary/secondary care clinicians, commissioners etc). Material that can be produced once and shared.

The website should be particularly promoted among GPs and Practice nurses. Better advice on monitoring the health of patients at various stages of CKD or who present with a broad spectrum of illnesses and infections that could impact on kidney health is essential for GPs. Also think the website could include stories by kidney patients to describe their experience of the early stages so that it informs people about the many more silent symptoms a patient might present.

I understand the usefulness of having a 'first point of access', clear information and signposting but I was wondering whether it would be possible for the website to display a map of all the regions/counties so that local AKI networks could upload locally agreed modifications to national guidelines/care bundles and local resources where these are in place/available. Users could then click on the region/county of interest to be signposted to locally relevant information. There are probably lots of logisitical issues with this but I thought it was worth asking the question

Could this website contain educational material, maybe with several descreet e-learning modules targeted at education for: 1) GPs regarding community AKI/ CKD issues 2) Hospital doctors FY1 - consultant general physicians, giving clear guidance on appropriate steps in management and investigation such when to perfomr Autoimmune screens (and when not to), the use of ultrasound to gauge chronicity of kidney disease when presented with a one off high creatinine etc. 3) Nursing staff - raising issues about the benefits of a good quality fluid balance charts and how to keep these, early urine dipsticks in AKI and what blood and protein may represent, and so inflence ongoing management. Why in some patients with AKI telling them to drink more isn't the sloution and can be harmful! If each of these modules had an associated assessment after working through a few explainatory slides it may carry greater educational value. I had been considering attempting something along these lines locally but I think if this was provided nationally it would be of higher quality and also potentially could be linked to CPD for consultants, and if generated a certificate could be helpful for junior doctors e-portfolios to demonstarte knowledge in AKI (+/- CKD).
